Beta 0.692 is out

The even hotter fix for beta 0.69 is now out, mostly fixing more urgent online stability issues, but also enabling tighter control over capture zones for maps. This means that you can no longer capture a base from the edges of it, but you or your fellow soldiers need to get closer to the base center. The future PvP maps should definitely benefit from this feature.

Beta 0.69 is out, introducing rocket launcher!

Hey there! Beta 0.69 is finally out, available at both Desura and BMTMicro.

0.69 introduces the M72 LAW one-shot rocket launcher as the first secondary weapon to put those jeeps out of their misery, well, and a few enemy soldiers too I’m sure. Other significant changes include preliminary jeep engine sounds, online stability improvements, easier aiming behind buildings, more vehicle spawn points now in all maps, and new vehicle props provided by StinkyTaco and JackMayol – thanks a lot guys and thanks also to ComJak for the M72 voxel model!

The full change log is on the forum post as usual.

Big Match on Saturday June 30th 7:00 pm UTC

While waiting for the 0.69 build to finalize for release, the RWR community is organizing another Big Match to get a lot of players to play online at the same time on the same server! The event takes place on Saturday June 30th at 7:00 pm UTC (GMT), so set all your alarm clocks ready so you won’t miss it! See the actual invitation on the forum for details.

The game will be most likely hosted by a 100/10mbit server in Finland, so European players should be able to enjoy low lag in general. US East Coast is also known to have a playable ~160ms lag on this particular server usually, so come and join the match numerously!

On another topic about online matches, this magnificent little tool provided by JackMayol just began to exist recently to track RWR online players without manually polling the in-game server list or watching the server list in a web browser. Whenever a player count exceeds a limit you’ve set, this tray app informs you about it. Very handy for getting notified when the players are gathering around for a match on any public server!
