Alpha 0.351, now with installer

Running with rifles alpha 0.351 is now available, this time there’s an actual installer. Besides the game itself, it installs Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 runtime and OpenAL if you don’t have those installed already, which are required to run the game.

See Downloads for details.

Change log is on the forum.

Should you stumble on any trouble with the installer or the game, let me know in the comments below / forum / directly at

I don’t really like installers. May I have a zip version instead?

Sure, here It has one modification over 0.35 already, it should allow people with ATI X1xxx cards to play the game as well, though atm I don’t know if that’s true as I can’t test it myself.

I’m not going to distribute MS VC++ 2008 runtime and OpenAL library in the zip releases, you’re going to have to manually install them if the game doesn’t run straight away. Look them up with google, you should find them.

Also, there’s no launcher bat-file anymore, so just run rwr_game.exe and you should be good to go.

Just tried the non-installer version (the .zip) and had an impressive amount of fun with it after changing the controls (thank you for that) to something i’m more used to.

I don’t know what are your plans for this little gem of a game you have coded there, but it has a lot of potential.

I wish you luck in your future version.

A problem i noticed is that during the game loading (i play windowed on window XP) if i click on the window or ALT-TAB to something else, the game will crash before reaching the main menu (i do not see any log file being created) with a “rwr_game.exe has caused a problem” generic window message.
If i don’t click or ALT-TAB during the loading screen, there’s no problem.

You’re absolutely right about the crash, got it fixed for the next release. Thanks!

Wow ! It’s really improved over time :D
Great fun to play and AI is great. Sneaking is great now, with realistic reactions from the AI !
