So I know you guys dont want to have buildings that you can run around inside.

Heres another idea..

Make buildings like vehicles.

Say there is a churchtower you want to snipe from, why not make the church tower like a vehicle spot? You walk up to the church, press space, and after a couple seconds you end up in the church tower? Much like a vehicle spot you couldnt move around, just sit and shoot or observe from.

Just an idea.

Good idea, but I question how well it would work. Could you go up the tower and kill the person in it? Would you have limited reign inside? Would you automatically kill someone inside it when you enter?

I imagine when you would go into a building you would lock the door behind you, so that would take care of that.

But as for door breaching and other things, im not sure sure. To enter the building perhaps you would have to kill whoever was inside?

Similar to COH and other RTS games in that sense.

I was thinking that you would be static, so you wouldnt be able to move around. Like a passenger in a jeep for example. So you could always be shot at to reduce camping.

Perhaps there could be multiple doors on some houses and each door corresponds to a certain window on the same side? Maybe one for small houses and a couple for bigger ones?

I'm fairly sure this idea has been tossed about on the IRC or something. I think the final verdict was: It MAY work but it would definitely be a post 1.0 pursuit.. along with like a billion others lol.

Damn. That was my best idea yet too.

No surprise someone thought of it earlier. But yeah, its definately the easiest way to incorporate buildings id imagine.

Hmm, I don't think this idea has been processed through yet, the approach is definitely good and about the only feasible one in scope of RWR 1.0 for anything like accessing buildings. Immovable vehicles that can be entered are already supported at least to a degree, and we have some plans of our own how we will make use of it.

Anyway, entering a vehicle seat which is occupied by an enemy will likely result as an enter+stab in the future, possibly with some grouping logic for seats so that accessing a front seat of a regular vehicle and killing the enemy in it might get you killed if the other seat next to it has another enemy.

In this sense, with the tower, entering it would result in a stab, with the previous occupant flying out from the tower, seems reasonable. Multiple doors could lead to different windows for sure.

The thing that is a bit problematic here is getting the collision detection right. If the shooter in the tower needs to be possible to kill by bullets, i.e. he's looking out from a window, the tower seat must be set as non-hiding. Ok, now the soldier is shown in there, but depending in the way the vehicle collision model has been made, he is actually inside the building collision model so bullets will hit that before they reach the shooter. The shooter's weapon could be peeking out of the tower collision model so his bullets might still fly off just fine.

The vehicles as such don't support more than one collision model currently, there's a chance something will be added for that, as we'd like the jeep to have a semi-penetrable windshield.

That sounds like a good solution. The simplest one as well.

If you had more modellers and whatnot, im sure you could make the building "vehicle" spots destructible eventually, right?
