Beta 0.57 is out, with more minor fixes

Beta 0.57 is out, bringing some essential usability and bug fixes. Also this time as a minor experiment, the weapon is no longer randomly chosen when respawning, instead, the weapon stays the same as before getting killed. This should enable slightly more focused class-like approach to the gaming. Let’s see how it fits.

See the change log for details.

Hi, just bought the game :-)

Have been playing the demo for some while. And, well, I think the demo is more fun :-/

Things that annoy me (that wasn’t an ‘issue’ in the demo):

    - You always seem to spawn alone away from base = no followers (unless you backtrack).

    - Somehow, I always find myself surrounded by enemies – even at the outskirts of my own territory. When I first start shooting, the enemies will come attacking from everywhere (are they more alert against the player now?)

    - The enemy AI seems to spawn all over the place when you attack. Kill one and he’ll spawn behind you. It makes attacking very different from earlier, where the enemies would be found amassed at one or two spots. Now they seem to be more spread out, so you’ll get shot at from all over the place. I think it’s a bit too chaotic. The game turns into a trigger-crazy action game, where you have to be shooting all over the place instead of a game, where you carefully plan your attack on the enemy stronghold.

    - The AI has become great defenders – but their attacking capabilities haven’t changed. All my games are somewhat stale now – base takeowers almost never happen unless I’m involved (with mortar shells).

I just played a game, where I attacked the center trench. I cleaned it out myself again and again and again (I spawned right next to it – alone!) And even though the friendly AI was targeting center trench and we had town west and east trench, I always found myself surrounded. The enenmy could defend center trench from every god damn angle – and even though I held it for 20 seconds, 40 seconds, one minute again and again, the friendly AI just never really broke through to help.

    - It is nice that you keep your weapon. But it should be easier to switch to a new one. Dropped weapons disappear too fast. Maybe have weapon lockers or something.

    Things I like:

    - There are more defenders in non-frontline bases. Makes it harder to make stealth attacks.

    - The mortar shells :-)

Thanks for the feedback, very good points there!

This goes to the TL;DR section, but here we go:

About spawning away from base, the thing that changed from the demo was that more spawn points were created to make it less tedious to run back to the battlefield all the way from the nearest base. This actually does have the effect you said, that you’re more likely to spawn in a place alone without guys to join your squad.

The squads are dynamic though, so you don’t necessarily have to go to a base to pickup guys, you can steal guys from other teams if you have enough influence. Also there’s almost a constant stream of soldiers approaching the attack staging area or the attack target base, so that area might be a good place to find some members for your squad too. Obviously, the soldier count setting has a large impact on all of this, and I currently can’t say if the game makes much sense with all the possible settings.

I wonder if this could be solved by giving a choice of spawning to the nearest usable spawn point or to a base, or perhaps even choosing a spawn point on the map.

I haven’t specifically noticed that enemies spawn all around the place, and they shouldn’t. If they do, that’s obviously a bug then. Enemies, as well as friendlies and you as a player, have more spawn points now, but there’s a threshold that one shouldn’t be able to spawn too near an enemy soldier — that threshold value might be too low currently, now that I think about it.

About always getting surrounded by enemies, I haven’t noticed that either, except for the first minutes of the game when the soldiers are positioned on the map first time. The AI has changed a lot since the demo, they probably hear farther now, so if someone opens fire it’ll draw in soldiers nearby.

In map1, the West trench – Center trench area has become one of the more difficult places to break through I admit, but I’ve seen it happen.

I remember someone on the forum saying that in a similar situation, though I think it was the other way around, attacking West trench from the Center, he took a small squad and managed to capture the Airport first by himself, thus creating another nearby supply of soldiers and a new angle to approach the West trench, leading the way to victory.

I’m mostly spending time in the map2 myself for bringing in the new features, and at least in that there are quite many base takeovers without player involvement too. At this time I’m spending so little time with map1, too little actually, that it is perfectly possible that it may suffer from some balancing issues atm.

Anyway, I’ll keep tweaking with it in the new versions, I’m sure there’s a balance somewhere :)

Sam below here is basically right.

I also sent you an e-mail how to obtain the game again.

Btw, there is actually a company behind the game, even if it is a one-man company :D

    @mryomantoo

There is no company behind this game, so it’ll be hard to get it out of business. :/
You might want to check out if you do have the full features in the game, because there is a bug of some sort in the installer which installs RWR in the demo folder if you had it previously.

Your best bet is to write about your issue in the support forum, because right now you’re not acting with much maturity. Chill out.
