Alpha 0.3 released!

Bug fixes, minor graphical details and sounds added, AI accuracy and soldier count settings, improved cover system, prone key, more support for modding, among others. Download alpha 0.3 here!

The change log is on the forum, as usual.

Other than that, the online support is progressing nicely, next I need to give it a proper test drive with a bunch of friends and turn it into a video!

Классная игра. Понравилась, играю каждый день, минут по 30-40. Жду, когда можно будет играть по сети, думаю, авторы это планируют реализовать в будущем.

Yeah guys! I have recently played this game… and it has a lot of potencial. You should keep your work on this. Don’t get mad, but the name is a little bit lame :p Anyway still a great game and a lot of future. I will check the web more often. Thx!

Glad you’ve enjoyed the game! The name is a bit lame on purpose, it tries to support the idea that the game itself isn’t all that serious either. It’s also a little twist on “running with scissors” of course. :)

I didn´t know that the game was not that serious. It would be very interesting to see it with more stuff and options. Of course multiplayer will add a lot of punch to the pack :D A good point to remark is that AI is sometimes really smart… for example: one time they throw me a granade getting aside wall and getting into it after they launch the granade. That was very cool (similar to a real player doing it) After all I hope this game to be a “serious game”. Thx for feedback :)

Sry for my english, not my native lenguage. GL.

    Rock on guys!

This game is a blast to play and shows a lot of promise. I found this game in Rock Paper Shotgun. Here’s hoping your development continues to go smoothly and you get more of the good press you deserve.

The AI needs to be much, much more aggressive than this. This is just getting ridiculous.

Made a post about it on the forum.

That’s a valid and known issue, and there are several things that contribute to it making it time-consuming to get the balance right. I answered in more detail on the forum.

Anyone else have a problem where it announces that you don’t have OgreMain.dll every time you try to launch it?

    • Posted August 11, 2011 at 09:43 | Permalink

Did you unzip the package properly? I can only get such an error message if I try to run rwr_game.exe directly in the zip without extracting all files (funny enough, Windows lets you do that).

I unzip’d it the same way I did with Alpha 0.2, and that works fine.

That is certainly strange. Do you have OgreMain.dll file there under the rwr-folder? Have you tried re-downloading the zip?

It’s a great update but it crashes randomly at save points.

    • Posted August 13, 2011 at 22:17 | Permalink

Can you paste the 20 or so last rows of rwr_game.log from those crashes to the forum? An issue has been identified with the game content reset, which happens when you load a game or start a new one — there’s a possibility for the “virtualize” crash to happen which has been fixed for upcoming 0.31. If you can load the same save game on the next attempt, then it most probably has been this case.

I’ve dl’d it twice. Both times didn’t work.

Have you thought of adding fallback positions? Like a whole new map to play on when you lose or win the first phase?

How it would work would be like you start off with even bases on the first phase, what you have now in other words, and then, when you win you move onto a new playing field which you start with one base and try to overtake you’re enemy again. And if you lose that phase, they start with one base on the old playing field.

If you lose the first phase, you would start with all except one base on your holdout position and try to get back on the old playing field and overtake them again.

If you don’t understand I can try and clarify, but this would be an option in the menus to turn on/off. It wouldn’t require too much new stuff added on to what you already have, but it would be an amazing addition.
