Sure, as of now boats are just to get your squad across the bay and that's all. They are utterly useless as of now. But I was thinking, why not add like a new boat or two?

Here's what I think:

Landing Craft
Since the boat we have now is a tiny rubber ducky of a boat, we could have the landing craft. I would say you could drive a jeep ontop of it and flank the hostiles. And it could include armor on the front, maybe some mounted machine gunners ( such as the current tank ). And hold 7 people.

Support Boat
This one would be much easier to code. It would be less rubber and more boat. It would fit less people on board, however it would include 2 machine gunners on the front and back. I could see this being used where massive battles that never end in chokepoints, then you have a giant support boat gun the enemy down.

Grenader Boat
Like the one above, it would be a boat with a grenade launcher on the front and a machine gunner in the back. Most likely it would be rare and used in these chokepoints. I personally like this idea.

Destroyer
Some would say it is over powered, others would watch the enemies be blown up. For all I care, this could be a radio call in. I think it would fun to have one destroyer on a map with large amounts of sea. The boat could fit like 12 people on board, most posing as machine gunners, a driver, and the gunner. The gunner would act as the gunner in a tank, however fire rates are slow. This is not a BATTLESHIP, it is a destroyer... Smaller and weaker. It would act as a long range artillery with about 6 cannons.

Torpedo Boat
On maps with a destroyer with huge guns ands tons of gunners, there must be a way to go down with it. So on all maps with the destroyer, there would be a torpedo boat. These boats go quite fast, weak, but pack a punch. For gameplay reasons, the torpedo would one shot any naval boat/ship including the destroyer. Most likely have 2 torpedos ( plus extras to reload ) and one machine gunner.

Submarine
The wounderful, wubulous, submarine. Probably the hardest to code, and probably people do not see what I mean. This submarine would be 1-2 persons. A driver, and a gunner. It would be ble to diver, and shoot one torpedo. Just a fun addition.

Over all I think these are somewhat reasonable to be added. Now, here is the list of Anti-Naval weapons used by players/AI

Naval Mines
Not used by the player, but loaded with the map. Hidden mines will destroy any boat that touches them. They can be not near the beach, but in harbors, and in oceans.

Tanks, Rockets, and a whole lotta grenades
You can destroy them the old fasion way. These boats shouldn't have tons of armor.

Any how, these boats would be easy to destroy, and mucho rare. Some not. The devs can do what ever they please to the ideas, alter, name, how they look, for all I care, not add them. I just think a lot of the maps have a lot of unused water areas. And remeber, I stated this above. Im not asking for them to add all of these, in fact, I am not asking, Just saying they could add one, and thats all.

PS this was written on an ipad, so bare with me with spelling errors.
EDIT Added poll. Ipad doesnt like viewing the total page.

I voted my self, I didn't choose all of them because some o them I personally think are a little to large to add in just one upade, or are too hard to code.
I chose the ones I'd honestly be happy with.

Great suggestions! We have something like support boat in our short run plans, within 1-3 updates, we have a specific new map in mind where it would make a great addition.

A thing similar to landing craft has crossed my mind - I'd even love to see a map which is completely made out of water, and each faction has these sort of huge carriers where the soldiers can run freely on the platform, using the stationary weapons on the ship for battling or trying to board enemy ships, and some poor bastard tries to steer that huge craft - but it's simply not doable within scope of RWR 1.0; the vehicles are and will be seat based elements only.

It's pretty safe to say that vanilla RWR won't go awfully far into naval battling, mostly it'll be about the troop transportation (rubber boats) and a bit of combat through support boats potentially with different kind of weapon installments. That said, plenty of seat based naval crafts should be possible, and fairly simple, to create as mods. Biggest obstacle with that seems to be 3D modeling, haven't seen a single mod with custom polygonal meshes so far even if vehicle modding has been possible for quite a time.

Yeah, I thought of some huge aircraft carriers with planes, etc. No, no... just joking.

But, I would really love to see boats with machine guns and a map/maps where boats have a bigger importance, because right now you barley see them in action and they are not that usefull. :(

I voted for landing craft simply because one of the things I absolutely wish for this game to have is a D-Day map. It would be absolutely amazing.

I'm happy to see people reading this post, especially the devs.
I've been working on modeling a humvee with a gun ontop.... So far it looks okay... But not to any RwR standards. One problem I run into is I have to create a map to use it on. I hope the devs are not mad at me for picking at the bones of the game.
