I just downloaded the demo for RWR yesterday. Played it for almost four hours on and off, and I can't wait to buy it. Even have a few things in mind for mod ideas, though I see one's already been done (WW2).

Now, tons of times I've been demolished by a grenade, along with a few of my AI pals, and I was honestly wondering: Would it be possible to sacrifice yourself (by diving on the grenade) to heavily lessen the chances of those around you dying? It's something I've never seen done, and it's something I've actually wanted to see for a while (CoD being the main offender, so many times I could have used my worthless hide to save a few teammates. :P )

I'm sorry if it's been suggested before, I searched for "grenade" in the Suggestions sub-forum and was told it was too common of a word. :oops:

I don't think it has been suggested yet. It sure is an interesting idea, but the grenades explode too quickly.

Personaly I like this idea, as long as it is not 100% protection from grednades for others but just some protection (and how much is some is matter of balancing, not guessing).

Maybe killchance is reduced to 0.6 from 1 when you do it?

haha you guys have sometimes insane ideas :D
It is not possible and will most likely never be. The blast of a grenade goes 100% through soldier bodies.
Also a grenade explodes too fast, it would be really hard with only 8-direction to dive exactly on the grenade.
Also you must be crazy to sacrifice your life for a few worthless AI lifes :D

I have to say this is actually a beautiful idea, I like it :D Reminds me of an old RWR video where a bot was shouting GRENADE and running right towards it haha :)

Would be easy to check the characters near the grenade if someone is practically on top of it and on prone, and as such decrease the blast damage / radius significantly.

Or, maybe characters could function as blast obstructing elements similar to crates and other static objects, possibly with a probability to obstruct or not. Would make the grenades thrown into AI crowds less effective as the blast effect wouldn't just go through everyone in the crowd.

@ Modest & ZnasVecKo: Indeed, a full chance at survival is way too much. I was figuring it'd only lessen the chances of those around you dying. 30% minimum, 60% maximum.

@ JackMayol: It's true, they do explode very fast, and honestly, I was mainly thinking in terms of multi-player. I've been on teams that have held great positions only to be messed up by a lousy grenade. With the AI, though, they have better aim than me at times, and it's the needs of the (sometimes incompetent) many over the needs of the (rarely lucky) few. ;)

@ pasik: Glad that you like the idea. :D Just figured it'd add more to the "war" vibe this game gives off.

And though I'm not suggesting the chance to actually survive diving on a grenade (not even a sliver), there's an incredible man who managed to survive two of them.

Its an okay idea..

But its a lot of work for something that only players would use, if they would even use it much at all.

They wouldnt make AI jump on grenades because grenades would be inneffective because AI would be jumping on every single grenade you throw making grenades much more lame.

I've toyed around with grenade stuff and they seem to be a bit more interesting when you add a bit of time till they explode, AND increase their explosive radius.

Value I used was (Time) 3 -> 4.5
Radius 4 -> 6
