Could you not just have some sort of a visor shield in front of the MG? So although you're stationary, enemies have to land a shot in a small slit to actually kill you.

Something like this: http://media.photobucket.com/image/rece ... lf/God.jpg

Stationary Machineguns are being a bit underrated here, yeah - in the vanilla game being stationary can (will) get you killed easily, but think of how useful this would be for modders.

For my mod, for example, finding good cover you can lock down an area pretty well, setting a stationary MG point on the little C bit of sandbags overwatching the road on the coastline in map2 for example would be very interesting.

Extended range/sight for the stationary MG might decrease the "stationary" disadvantage, letting you to get the first drop on your horde of enemies . The extended view distance could only be in the direction you are set up to encourage flanking.

Also, the gun can have just a 60-70 degree field of fire, than require a set-up delay to occur if you want to change your direction, like in Company of Heroes.

I think it's kinda ridiculous when weapons without scope have increased sight range. To be honest, it's still OP even with default range. And even if you can shot in specific angle. To make this idea more balanced and interesting - it must have advantages and disadvantages. For the first - endless ammo and kill probablity at dangerous distance. For the second - limited fire angle, apc turret mechanics (but faster spinning of course), overheating (everyone knows the way of it, it's obvious). So idea can turn to balanced and pretty usefull. Maybe not now, but I think developers going to make ammo not unlimited and collectable.

ammo being limited makes more sense because really ammo does end (irl of course, but in some games it is unlimited, that gives lil bit unfair advantage). unlimited ammo sounds so stupid to game which is almost realistic. and well the angle is limited(maybe about lil bit over 130 degrees). spinning...spinning makes sense only if attached to tank or jeep, (jeep would need to be remodeled then) otherwise it doesnt much. overheating, of course its basic element of MG.

Ammo being limited makes no sense whatsoever. Most stationary machine guns in real life are fed off a belt, so wouldn't need to reload, but also, in RWR you have unlimited clips for any other gun. Ammo being limited for stationary MGs is inconsistent, brings many difficult questions (how do you bring it new ammo?, why does the APC turret not have limited ammo?), and would make the gun extremely underpowered which makes no sense considering it's a defensive weapon.

I do, however love the idea of having stationary MG nests. It'd encourage more flanking, stealth, and bring a more proper use for the sniper rifle, but would also make APCs a lot more useful as they could resist the flood of bullets.

In adversary matches, this is already happening. I lost count how many times I dragged my good old M240 to the sandbag wall last Sunday and kept spraying bullets until I heard that sound as if someone sneezed, only to find myself killed due to a headshot.

Anyway, I was happy, the pieces dropped in their places: M240 on the sandbag wall bringing heavy suppressive fire keeping the front enemy away or dead and our guys trying to advance using the opportunity I was trying to create, enemy sniper on the roof I couldn't even see, me dead. People actually tried to make the best of their choices of weapons.

I personally think stationary weapons are great if they are something very different to what you can carry along, hence MG nests bad. No one would bother filling their primary weapon slot with M240, if you can just use the MG that's sitting on the wall and switch between that and your G36 at will. Shoot with the MG front, and if someone flanks, shoot at them with G36.
