Had a thought today and I had not made any new topics in a while so I thought why not? Would it be possible to implement mines for Defensive strategy in RWR.But a player can only have a limited amount down, say 5.As for the AI i thought you could place or highlight Regions where lots of the enemy will usually come through so if they have mines on them they will place them there.

Strategic placement to stop enemy invasions.... I kinda wish they were ingame already. :D

Mines are planed and will be implemented at some point. They will come along with the engineer truck but don't expect them anytime soon, but definitely before the official 1.0 release.

What kind of mines were we thinking of having? We could use them at the borders of a map to prevent players from trying to walk off the map, it's what the original CoD's did as far as I know.

Usually there are several types of mines ranging from antitank mines to tripflares, but perhaps only AT mines and maybe AP mines should go in. AT mines typically detonate when something heavy activates it (like a vehicle) meaning people can walk over it just fine, meaning they don't get wasted on some random person. AP mines are meant to take out infantry, and can be activated either by pressure or tripwire or even remotely detonated depending on the mine. Tripflares and smoke mines are used to warn you of enemy movement and flanking attempts.

In terms of gameplay the AT mines would be easy enough to implement, even the more complex ones like the SLAM. On grass and dirt type terrain they can be buried so it's difficult to spot but may be less likely to get a vehicle unless you're tricky about it. They can't be buried on pavement for obvious reasons, but are more likely to be in the path of vehicles. AP mines may be a bit trickier, how do you balance it right? Are there any indications of a mine present, or are there methods to find the mines before activating them? When you do find a mine can you disable it or do you have to go around? If you cannot remove a mine other than by walking on it and killing yourself I can see that being abused.

I can see mines being very useful for ambushes =p

we didn't discuss about AP mines, those could be abused, especially against the AI anyway... So it would most likely only be AT mines.
