Like I said earlier, it could be that small arms fire can't blow up a car hollywood style, but it could destroy "parts" of it, making it less useful as cover, similar to arma 2 where a normal car door isn't going to be protecting you from rifle fire for a long time. Its just when you start getting heavy explosives that you start getting the more hollywood explosions, perhaps sending shrapnel and debris flying in all directions.

Way too much.

I suggest something much, much simpler. When cars explode, they disappear from the game just like the wooden crates. You'll shoot at a car, it will eventually catch on fire, and once it explodes, the car will become completely obliterated. Not exactly realistic, but actually has an effect on gameplay without delving into territory where we're talking about modelling detailed locational damage to vehicles and other stuff that's way too deep into quasi-simulation -territory to fit at home in this game.

It also gives you some (light) tactical dilemmas. Like if you're attacking an enemy using cars as cover, and you choose to concentrate on blowing up the cars, robbing the enemy of their cover and potentially taking out a few extra enemies who don't manage to get away from explosions in time. The problem with this plan, obviously, is that once you've taken control of that area, it will be that much harder to defend in turn because you've just blown up all the cover.

Again; kind of like how wooden crates are at present, only they explode violently and do a great deal of damage to soldiers around them.

I'd rather not have the card explode into nothingness though, that seems a bit extreme.

I just like the idea of cover or objects getting more torn up over time and eventually falling apart (unless hit by appropriate ordnance) compared to a call of duty like system where they catch on fire and explode.

It defeats the purpose of having the cars explode, I'd imagine.

Like someone said, cars don't just explode, so it falling apart bit by bit is a lot more appealing, like I said before, but in the end, its not my choice to make.

Actually, now that you mention it, the car falling apart piece by piece sounds way more appealing. I'm imagining a fully loaded jeep barreling through a bunch of enemies as the doors, hood, wheels, etc are falling off from all the excessive fire it's taking before crashing into a wall or tank trap.
