I've been playing RWR for a bit now, and an idea kinda came to me while I was playing. This idea is already partially implemented with the "GRENADE!" speech bubbles, but I was thinking perhaps expanding upon these. For example, there has been some discussion about not knowing if you are shooting uphill, and not having a clear line of sight. Insead of a targeting line that could appear to be some sort of debug tool, how about your character yelling some kind of indication like "I CAN'T GET A CLEAR SHOT!" or "I've got 'em in my sights." This would serve as a way for you to know where you were aiming more easily, and make your character a little more human. It could also be used in situations where you can hear gunfire, but can't work out the direction - "I can hear fire to the west!" This has no real limit to it's applications, and improves immersion a little bit.
Thoughts?

Defiantly want this, have been waiting for the "SNIPER!!" bubble since before the sniper was even in the game :)
Although it would have to be relatively uncommon, as you don't want you screen filled with text.

And I just thought of an idea with this: squad banter. Things like arguing over who has got more kills, and jeering at each others accuracy.

I think this would be awesome :)

I like the idea, soldiers yelling out stuff like "COVER ME!" before they move from cover and what not would be cool, I'd like to see more team/squad interaction. It could be anywhere from really easy to impossible-without-a-rewrite to implement depending on how everything works under the hood though.

Yeah, I do have plans to expand on this at some point. "Sniper on the roof!" and stuff like that is somewhat easy to add and I might add it quite soon even. You could toss me some ideas and I'll try to think how feasible they are.

One of the minor things that's been on my mind is that when you'd travel back to a friendly base, you'd see the defending soldiers chatting about something (anyone want to come up with a bunch of dialogues? :)) and if you or another leader there would be of significant higher rank, they'd perhaps salute and go through the usual stuff, "Attention!", "At ease", etc. Just a thought, I don't really have plans to do all that in a very short term.

I'm in the NJROTC program in my high school, so I can help out with the commands and what-not. Just ask when you need help, but till then, some commands.

Platoon, Aaah-ten--shun! (Attention)

Hand salute! (Go to salute)

Ready, cut. (Stop action; many different uses. IE; with rifle manual, when you do an action, like dress-right-dress [Spacing between soldiers in a squad line, done by sticking out left arm, and looking towards the squad leader with exception of the SL, who just sticks his/her arm out, or the last soldier in the squad who just looks right.] the action is stopped and you go back to attention. )

Right. face! (Turn 90 degrees right)

Left, face! (Turn 90 degrees left)

About, face! (Turn 180 degrees)

Half-left, face! (45 degrees left)

Half-right, face! (45 degrees right)

These are just a few of the basic ones. There are more that I could go into deep detail about, but I feel like it isn't necessary right now. Just ask if you want me to.

Give me a day or so, and I could likely have some dialogue ready and posted here. It'd be cool to have some guard banter (And soldiers chatting between firefights.)

Guard Dialogues
Within this section, I am assuming the conversations are happening between two participants. They will be indicated by the numbers "1" and "2."

A.
1-You ever wonder why we're here?
2-Yeah. As far as I can tell, this place is just another town (Note: This could be changed by map to allow for more realistic discussion,) in the middle of nowhere.
1-Yep.
2-And I swear, the only reason we're here is because the [TEAM COLOR]'s are here. And the only reason they're here is because we're here.
1-Well, yeah, thats because we're fighting each other.
2-Fair enough. I just wish we could get this over with.
1-Agreed. It's getting cold (Could have a random chance of saying cold or warm,) out here.
2-Not just that. I have a family back home, and I'd like to see them again. The sooner the better.
1-I don't have any family. But I do have a dog. I suppose it would be nice to see him again.

B.
1-And rookie, remember, don't salute the officers.
2-Why? During Basic, they told us saluting was...
1-I don't really care what they told you during Basic. Every time you salute an officer in the field, it makes him a target for the [TEAM COLOR]'s. So DON'T do it. Especially if I'm standing next to him.
2-Oh.... ok.

C.
1-Hey.
2-What's up?
1-Knock knock
2-What?
1-It's a knock-knock joke.
2-I have no idea what you're talking about.
1-It's a type of joke.
2-What kind of joke?
1-It works like this: First, I say "Knock Knock."
2-Ok.
1-And than you say "Who's there?"
2-Got it.
1-Then I'll say something.
2-Simple enough.
1-Wait. Then you have to say "Something who?"
2-Is that it?
1-Yep. Then I'll give you the punchline.
2-Ok. Let's do it.
1-Ok. Knock knock.
2-Who's there?
1-Boo.
2-Something who?
1-What?
2-That wasn't a very funny punchline. Actually, it was terrible.
1-Wait... what? Oh... I don't think you get it.
2-Don't try blaming your terrible jokes on me.
1-What? You're the.... you know what? Forget it.

D.
1-So, what did you do before this?
2-I was a garbage man.
1-Really?
2-Yeah. It was good work. I mean, people always have trash to get rid of, so it's not like we're going out of business.
1-...
2-What>
1-I dunno... I guess I took you for something more...
2-More what?
1-Interesting, I suppose.
2-What do you even consider interesting?
1-I dunno. Something like a pilot, or an adventurer, or maybe an-
2-I'm not some movie character.
1-True enough.
2-So... what did you do?
1-Me? I was a School teacher. Taught english, actually.
2-And you're calling me boring?
1-I did not say boring!
2-Whatever. You'd know, you damn teacher.

I'll likely plug in more over time, so consider this list incomplete.

Haha good job, the dialogues certainly crack me up! =D

I especially liked how dialogue A was laid out. Any "self-aware" jokes about the game world, AI behavior, appearance, you name it, are highly appreciated. They could chat about their discontent towards the plans of the commander, or about their hypothetical earlier missions e.g. revealing some tactical hints, or how awesome swimming is, how thick and inpenetrable the forest is at the outskirts of the area..

Good stuff!

Okay, I have to go to school soon, so this'll be quick.

Dialogue Cutoff (Death) Example:

1-Yep. Then I'll gi-

*Shots fired, 1 dies*
2- *FirstName*! I'll avenge you friend!
2 Gets mortally wounded
2- I'll see you soon, my friend.

Death Shouts:
    Oh no!*
    *FirstName*!*
    You had it coming.
    Boom, headshot.
    Eeep!*
Oh no, oh no, OH NOOO!
    God bless you.*
    Run away, run away!
* = Can only be dialogue, not thought bubble. Anything else can being either dialogue, or thought, depending on a random order.

Mortally Wounded:
    Goodbye, world!
It... hurts *Cough* so ba- bad...
    Tis' be a flesh wound!
Oh, hey momma. You came *Cough* to... see me? *Cough*
I'll finally be with *name*... (Name of a previously dead squadmate. If multiple, the one spent most time being the closest to. Helps reference a 'friend')
    Ouch, those lights are bright...

Day/Night dialogues:
    --Day:
    Shit, all out of water.
I should have brought my sunglasses.
This is as hot as Miami!
I'm sweating... bullets! Get it? Haha! Ha...
    I need a smoke.
    This heat is killing me!
Shade... shade, where can I get some shade?!

    --Night:
    Shh, be verrryyy quiet!
    AHHHH! Nope, just an owl.
Did you see that? I swear I saw something (In, behind, under) (those, that) (bush[es], tree[s], rock[s], building[s], car[s])
Gack! Spiderweb! Bleh...! (Triggered when walking between two objects that are close together. Most often a tree)
    Urrrgh, a spiderweb! (See above)
I feel like spiders are crawling all over me! Yuck! (Above)

More to come. School now, bai.

P.S. When tossing a grenade, reference Antioch from Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Thanks alot! I had planned on doing a few more discussions that leaned heavily on the fourth wall, and had also planned on doing an interesting conversation about the impenetrable forests. I'll likely toss a couple more bits in here soon.
