In certain regions, each team would be given a limited amount of 'morale' if enough of the team was KIA, the morale would drop enough and the team would try to pull out. After pulling out, they would be able to retry (shortly) after. This would be good because it feels more realistic to war, even if the end result of this game isn't meant to be overly realistic.
I'm not going to pour detail into this because I think it would be good for the dev(s?) to implement it the way they would see fit.
Good idea, I've also had some thoughts about implementing a proper pulling out behavior for the AI teams. Currently, although it sometimes might seem that they do some kind of retreating, they really don't, they just happen to realize they would need to be somewhere else preferably if they happen to run away
