| Post subject: | Idle AI Activities: Like Smoking! |
The AI need some extra idle activities. Can they Smoke? Seriously, it's war, someone needs to be standing around behind the lines smoking. Maybe we can come up with some "Easter Egg" classic War Movie Dialogue Quotes? (Hopefully enough out of context to maybe not need to worry about "rights" and stuff?) Maybe a couple guys working on a jeep? There's always got to be a guy takin' a leak on a tree. Just curious, as always. |

Not a very good support exists for this sort of stuff, especially with items / particle effects appearing from nowhere for duration of an animation. Something, that they could do without those effects and while being still could be basically done much easier, if the game would just trigger those animations to play randomly at times when idle. The characters actually already go to an idle state if standing still for a longer while, they hold the two-hand weapons differently, so extending that to kick an animation to play from a pool would be simple. The could sit down for a while, do some push ups, yawn, lots of things, without even involving AI in it, with the cost of working with some new animations. Of course, if we had unlimited time, we could make the bots do stuff that make them appear as if they interact with the environment, basically adding a bit different kind of patrol behavior. It's all fun stuff, wish I had more time to play around with the AI dev! |

How about some Out of context old classic war movie quotes for ai chatter? You guys used to have some good Easter Egg quotes and chatter. There could be a bunch of good subtle things, RWR has such a "classic" or "retro" feel, a few nods to some classic games wouldn't hurt. Or maybe something a bit helpful and PR'ish. Like you guys did with the "Is it out yet?" Yeah on Steam and Desure" chatter. But instead reference the Wiki, or modding, or hosting, or some other things. It could be a good platform for some player fun and helpful info in-game. Maybe even "game tips" interwoven in the right way. |

We're kinda saving it for last as a task given how there's minimal risk involved. We could actually start collecting concrete suggestions if people would like to contribute some phrases. |
