Often causes death if you spawn on top of the patrol ship when map starts. Not so nice when you have full set of rare weps. You can't even pick them from the botom of the sea.
Hope this will be fixed. Also water picking.

Yea, happens from time to time and this isn't very pleasant.
Sometimes you can pick some items from the water, but only sometimes and only part of them..... dont know why this action is not permanent and why all stuff can not be taken. I remember that in the earlier versions you could get all stuff if you're fast enough(and near the coast).

Does this happen in conjunction with the inability to respawn altogether when joining the server? This tends to happen when the enemy gets too close to the ship, your spawnpoints become locked and you can't spawn, but you must spawn when joining a server, so you spawn dead. Not sure now if there's special handling to not lose the equipment in that case or not.

I think the spawnpoints in the ship base work in general as long as the enemy isn't there on the ship, right?

I don't think it's that. For one thing, I've never noticed that I couldn't respawn because spawn points were locked when it happens.

Also, when it happens, the boat is usually rocking around, like it just got dropped into the water. I've seen the same thing happen when you click a spawn point in the middle of nowhere and there's a vehicle nearby. Do vehicles not really get "settled" on the map unless a player has observed one? Sometimes something weird happens and the vehicle flips over and blows up, or gets thrown across the screen (andy maybe runs into you and kills you) right as you spawn.

Ah of course, I was somehow reading patrol ship = carrier base ship, silly me.

The patrol ship also has one spawn point itself, so it's possible were actually talking about that, maybe it's not well positioned and sometimes can cause you to spawn beneath / inside the ship, which may cause weird offsets and get you killed too. That, or the case where the ship is in inactive area due to not having players nearby, then you spawn there, vehicle physics activate and position / rotation may move a bit, then causing something bad to happen.

I've never seen a similar thing happen with the spawn truck, so maybe it's indeed just the spawn point positioning.

EDIT: Yup, spawn truck spawn point is about 2m from the back, with patrol ship it's -1m, not good.

About spawning over the patrol ship it is assumed this issue will be fixed soon. And what about picking the items from the water?

You already can.
Swim over the item,
tap F (or whatever you bound the inventory button to),
swim back to land and...
*poof* it's in your inventory (or in your hands if it was a weapon).

Picking items in water is disabled due to some technical awkwardness that rises from that your weapon is hidden and unusable while you're in the deeper type of water; not sure if it would be straightforward to fix, it might be given how there's the bug DoomMetal told about. It requires investigation.

Not always, Doom.
Probably you haven't tried to pick some stuff by the water recently.;) Of course I know how to so I said above: "Sometimes you can pick some items from the water, but only sometimes and only part of them..... dont know why this action is not permanent and why all stuff can not be taken. I remember that in the earlier versions you could get all stuff if you're fast enough(and near the coast)."

I'm not sure what you mean by "disabled", but st the moment surely you can take only valuables, getting the rest of items is a matter of luck. You could grab almost everything by the water anyhow.
Btw I noticed you have a better chances to pick up the items if you are empty handed(e.g. you want to pick up a weapon/vest or some secondary item -> go on drought -> open inventory -> move your current one to be inactive -> swim back and press "pick up" button over the item -> when you're back on land it is in your hands/inventory.
This trick doing the work in most of the times. ;)

EDIT
Speaking only for online gaming(SAS invasion), so I don't know if the same applies to SP.

I mean that you can't access the inventory view while in water as that would enable you to swap the equipped items, including the weapon what you have (don't really have) active in your hands. The bug here is that quick pickup by single tap on pickup key works.
