paratroopers is a good feature. would it be possible to spawn as a paratrooper which players may request. like someone requests paratroopers and there would be human players as a paratrooper coming from skies.

yea, my idea of battle start, was that you actually land as paratrooper at one of your base... :)

This would "look cool" but that's it. The whole parachute animation takes a while and when you respawn with spacebar or clicking on a spawnpoint is instant. Also when you are hanging on a chute, you are exposed and could be shot down easily.

Yea, it's a cool idea. But I know in a game I played forever called MAG which ran large numbers of players at one time (128vs128 max) coming in as a para drop was suicide, almost every time. The plane is a give away, and the hang time makes you easy target practice.

Oh, what about a call for a quick heli transpot? Like to get picked up from a distant front and quickly moved to a new front with your team or troops? I know you guys want to implement "battle taxi's", so what about fast "sky taxi"?

This might be implemented in a way or another in vanilla eventually, but honestly, there's currently no good idea of how would you submit yourself to be spawned as a paratrooper.

I totally understand it as the very first entrance to a map, but what after that? Do you press space when you're dead and wait for 5 min for the next plane to go across the screen to spawn or do you even wait for as long as another player/AI calls for paratroopers? I fail to see how you would inform the game that "hey, I want to be in the paratroopers that spawn around this particular area.. well.. whenever someone requests them" and how would you ensure that you're indeed dead at that time to be able to respawn in the first place? Doesn't sounds very fun to me to be waiting around for someone to call in paratroopers so that you'd be able to respawn, if you could just press space, respawn somewhere else and get on with it.

Or am I thinking this all wrong?

Where do you actually need and use this feature, apart from the very first "cutscene" entrance to a map?

how about if it just puts random guys (mainly bots) what are waiting to be respawned to paratroopers. IF requested. of course its a small chance of being a paratrooper to human players.

One case where this could be highly useful would be making this work much like the mobile spawn point truck. Let's say you could find or purchase an item, a flare, which you could throw/drop and activate, which would technically create a temporary spawn point (or area) high up in the air. The spawn point would be available for a set number of spawns or time.

Ideally, it would have some kind of window of availability so that it would fit with airplanes going by the point periodically rather than being able to spawn there at any given time, but for usability's sake even always-on-until-done spawn point would work great.

It might render mobile spawn truck obsolete, though usually mobile spawn trucks are fairly scarce anyway, so maybe not.
