Post subject: | Low Resolution Zoom |
My dad and I have recently bought RWR and love it. But one thing that really bugs us is that he is using a monitor with a native 1280x1024 resolution. With my 1920x1080 monitor, I can see farther than him. But more importantly, the AI seems to see him before he can see them, thus he gets shot off screen. I was thinking, maybe adding an option for a zoom slider, or the lower the resolution, the farther you can see? We're just wondering if this could be a possible fix. I apologize if this was suggested or discussed earlier. |

The problem is not so much lower resolution but the aspect ratio. If you compare 1920x1080 to 1280x720 where both are 16:9, the actual visible area is the same. Comparing different aspect ratios, one of you will see more on the screen in either case; if more letter-box screens than 16:9 are made zoomed out, they can be made to see the same amount as 16:9 horizontally, but then they'll see farther vertically. Currently the zoom out is not there, so you both should see the same distance vertically, but you with wider screen see farther horizontally. As 16:9 is the primary aspect ratio chosen for RWR, giving an advantage to less wide screens would feel weird. The "true" way to fix this would be use to black boundaries on top and bottom of the screen for less wide than 16:9 screens to make their content 16:9, but that's probably even more annoying than the current situation. A kind of compromise would be to allow larger camera panning area horizontally for less than 16:9; they wouldn't still see quite the same with one glimpse as wide screens, but you would be able to pan around the same area, making at least fighting against bots more even. |

For now, you could just use a lower than native 16:9 resolution, (1280x768?) and play it in window mode so it's not stretched. source: phd in gaming |
