Something along these lines could be possible, at least for mods, in 0.95. The soldier groups feature is being implemented which allows you to create sort of sub factions. The groups come with their own resource settings, XP & RP distribution, models, character specs. I wasn't intending to include names in there, but might as well now that you brought up a good use case for that

There's no way for player to choose his group, he's always in the default group. Savegame hacking can be used to work around that, probably.
Mainly this is to allow some degree of bot specialization in vanilla, so that we can have less common high ranking bots who are armed to teeth.
