So I know the limited ammo question could spark a large debate, and that's not what I'm intending with this topic. What I really want to talk about/suggest is the possibility of giving massive speed bonuses to unarmed (and body-armor-less) characters. Unarmed you say? Isn't this game called running with RIFLES? Well, yes, but hear me out. I've always been strangely inspired by scenes in movies like Saving Private Ryan where one guy basically runs through crossfire to deliver ammo to other soldiers, or more broadly the concept of a "runner" with information or some other important item that needs delivering across dangerous battlefield(s). I know this probably would divert away from what most people play the game for (shooting) but for me it would be really interesting and potentially rewarding to dash madly (though tactically with cover and so on) across a battlefield to help out some AI or human soldiers. AI soldiers could even fill these roles, acting sort of like the comms truck but on a smaller scale. "Runners" that remain alive could give bonuses or maybe convey info about the map somehow. Anyway, probably just a crazy idea but I wanted to throw it out there. Perhaps it would fit better in a less contemporary setting too. Any thoughts? |

if i remember correctly there was some sort of hardcore thigy planned on invasion or something like that, i cant remember thatfar pretty accuratly. This runner would make sense on that as the limited ammp was mentioned there |

Some parts of the idea could be made already, basically. The weapon (and vest was it?) you've got can alter the movement speed, so you could for example have some item in the armory that designates you into such runner role, giving you a boost with movement. Maybe it's an ammo supply item represented as primary weapon, maybe it's something else. Working in the mechanic of affecting ammo isn't doable, at least currently, as there's no such concept as ammo for reloadable weapons except within one mag. Other alternatives, rather than more bullets, could be e.g. filling grenades for people or secondaries. This could work so that the supply item you've got, would either cause a mass spawn of this stuff where you apply it (I guess it's already doable in some way), or it could send a message to the script which would handle filling nearby soldiers' pockets or backpacks with grenades and stuff (not sure if doable yet, but will be). Or, it could work as a more high level concept that there's some attribute that needs to be kept high enough, otherwise people will start losing their weapons or get their weapons swapped to a weapon which represents generic jammed / empty weapon (the script side can't exactly do that yet, but there's a slight chance it might be in the future). On topic of getting AI to do it, not going to happen unless they can do it unaware of it, e.g. it works automatically as an area of influence. |

Thanks for the reply. Everything you say makes sense. Restocking grenades/secondary items would be pretty cool. Could maybe be an item that is a "supply bag" or something that is equipable instead of a gun and when you "fire" it, it restocks friendlies in a radius. I'd be perfectly ok with AI soldiers doing this unintentionally. I understand it would divert from otherwise important priorities to have a bunch of gunless AIs running around. On a side note, looking forward to the next build! Keep up the good work. |
