While yes, a person will still check the controls before playing a new game, if you deviate away from what other games do, you can unnecessarily steepen the learning curve.
I didn't have to check where the grenade button was, I immediately hit G.
I didn't have to figure out how to shoot, I aimed with the mouse, and fired with the LMB.
I didn't have to learn how to reload, I hit the R button.
All of this was done subconsciously when I started the game, which is something that you want to happen for new people, who are more likely to decide they don't like the game and never touch it again, because they don't have a solid opinion yet.
