Post subject: | Anti Material Rifle Secondary |
Hi everyone, this is a suggestion for an Anti material Rifle to be implemented as a secondary weapon. (Also my first post on these forums ![]() There have been a couple of suggestions for a .50 cal sniper rifle on this forum, and it is included as a primary weapon in some mod packs, however I think a weapon like this would be much better suited to a secondary slot. Obviously the rifle most people imagine when you mention a 0.50 cal Anti material rifle is the Barrett M82, which this suggestion is sort of modelled after. As in real life the .50cal is primarily used to engage light armoured targets and personal behind cover. I suggest that it be effective against Jeeps, APC’s , Coms trucks and boats. Doing about a third of the damage a LAW would do per shot. On top of this I suggest that it be a one hit kill and (if possible) be able to pierce through light cover. It would also have a slightly higher firing rate than the M24A2 (because irl it is semi auto) and the same scope/view distance. In order to balance this weapon and not make the M24A2 (or the LAW) obsolete, I suggest that: 1. It is a secondary weapon, which means it has limited ammo, and like the LAW is fairly scarce. I suggest that it comes with 5 rounds per pickup, with a maximum of 10 rounds. 2. It can only be fired while prone or behind cover, same as the M240. 3. Although the Barrett M82 only has a 10 round magazine, if the max ammo was to be increased, the reload time would be similar to that of the M240 LMG. 4. While effective against light armour and troops, it would do no damage to tanks. This would mean that compared to the M24A2 it is less versatile and has a significant ammo limit as well as requiring the user to be prone to fire, while not being any more effective against troops. Also, compared to the law it is less effective per shot, has no area of effect damage and does no damage against tanks, while also being less useful at close range due to it being restricted as 'prone to fire'. However, it is better at longer ranges. So what do you think? |
