Right now, aiming the APC turret requires you to hold down the mouse button in the enemy's direction. This often results in a few shots being fired once the weapon is in position, which will alert enemies nearby or even result in friendly fire. If the turret always followed the crosshair, vehicle combat would be smoother and more fun. Just my $0.02.

Seconded. Keep the current turning speed and whatever, just make it always follow the crosshairs.

This would also be great for the M240. Come to think of it, why don't all weapons do this?

I agree that it's not the best solution indeed but the turret rotating automatically according to where you point the cursor at (without pressing the shoot button) isn't a solution either as you might just want to look around you what's going on.
A right mouse button click would suit pretty well but it's used for other stuff unfortunately :p

I suppose pasik could add a button that would lock the turret. I don't see why this would be a problem though.

In general, partly it's to save network traffic, no need to send everyone's aiming target positions to everyone else when they are not attempting to shoot. I agree on the turret problem though.

There are of course plenty of keys available when you're on the gunner seat, one could be easily made to flag it that you're just aiming, not shooting when holding this particular key down together with shoot key.

Pick one and I'll add it.

Does it even have to be a fixed key? Can't it be added to the key config list?

It doesn't, that's just more work and as such it will be postponed near 0.95-> area.

If the key is mixed with one of the existing ones, similar to how pick up in vehicle is handbrake to communicate with AI, it doesn't take more than a few minutes to add. Handbrake will likely become a separate entry in the key config as well later, but right now the game doesn't support binding one key to multiple entries in the config.

I meant more like crouch key. What are you using as middle click?
