Both data1.paks work great for me. I don't see any difference between them.

(I reverted to the original data1.pak just to make sure, and it does still do the blocky square things.)

The difference between the attempts was that a specific pixel shader wasn't used when rendering the character voxels in the second attempt, but good to know the issue wasn't anywhere there.

I had this same issue on a 64bit Linux Mint with NVidia card.

The first pack in the above post fixed my issue.
