Post subject:  [FIXED] Unplayable despite exceeding system requirements

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and my laptop has the following hardware:

    CPU: Intel® Core™i3 Dual Core Mobile Processor i3-3120M (2.50GHz) 3MB
    RAM: 8GB SAMSUNG 1333MHz SODIMM DDR3 MEMORY (1 x 8GB)
Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 4000 Video Memory Technology up to 1.7GB (Intel Ivybridge Mobile)
    SSD: 240GB KINGSTON V300 SSD, SATA 6 Gb (450MB/R, 450MB/W)

My full spec as output by lshw is available here.

The minimum system requirements are stated as:

    CPU: 1.6 GHz Dual Core
    RAM: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: NVidia Geforce 6800, ATI x800, Intel HD3000 or equivalent with 256MB VRAM - please note that the game is not playable with ATI/AMD proprietary drivers!
    HDD: 400 MB available space

Therefore as I exceed them, it seems strange that even with all the graphics options set to low/minimum the game is completely unplayable. I mean it's not a slight lag or so on, it is very difficult to even navigate the menu, and the game itself has such poor performance it is unplayable.

Are the specifications just wrong and the game is actually much more demanding? Which seems strange given that XCOM: Enemy Within etc. run fine, or is there some bug here affecting performance?

I was able to fix the bug by deleting the

Code:
~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/RunningWithRifles/lib/libz.so.1

file.

This solution was described here.
