Post subject: | Beta 0.96: Very Low FPS and high CPU on linux after update |
Issue: --- With Beta 0.96 when running the config or the game my cpu usage goes up about 60% and my fps goes way down making the game basically unplayable. I had no fps issues with the previous version (Beta 0.95). Running the config utility or playing the game only raised my cpu usage about 3-4%. Since my cpu usage goes up just by running the config utility I am guessing this is more likely a bug then a system specs issue. Also everything in 0.95 works great. --- Possibly related: ---- The config utility for 0.95 has antialiasing options 0,4,8 The config utility for 0.96 has antialiasing only has option 0 --- My Solution (Tentative): --- If I replace the 0.96 .../RunningWithRifles/lib folder contents with the ../RunningWithRifles/lib from 0.95 and it seems to fix the cpu/fps issue. Will replacing these files cause any issues? I have only had a chance to play a couple minutes like this, but I have not noticed any issues. --- Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Specs: --- OS: Ubuntu 14.04 (trusty) Kernel: 3.14.2-031402-generic CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40GHz Memory: 8 GB Graphics: Mobile IntelĀ® HD Graphics (3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller) --- |

Hmm, that would seem rather weird to me. If I compare the lib files between 0.96 and 0.95.1, the comparison gives no differences. Same thing with rwr_config. They're all identical. Any changes with the cpu usage between several runs of the same version? Are you using Steam, the standalone tar.gz from Desura or the usual Desura version? |

Thank you for your response. ------ This does NOT seem to be a RWR specific issue. This appears to be more of a general shared library issue. ------ I believe I have found the culprit. I hope this isn't held against me and for the sake of clarity, I obtained 0.95 from unofficial sources. I then decided to buy RWR through Steam which is how I ended up with 0.96. I ran a diff on my 0.95 .../lib/ and the original 0.96 .../lib/. The 1 diff was that 0.96 has an extra file: libz.so.1 After looking at the terminal output of rwr_config and rwr_game (0.96) I found this error: --- libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/i965_dri.so failed (/home/kyle/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/RunningWithRifles/lib/libz.so.1: version `ZLIB_1.2.3.3' not found (required by /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libpciaccess.so.0)) libGL error: dlopen ${ORIGIN}/dri/i965_dri.so failed (${ORIGIN}/dri/i965_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) libGL error: dlopen /usr/lib/dri/i965_dri.so failed (/usr/lib/dri/i965_dri.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory) libGL error: unable to load driver: i965_dri.so libGL error: driver pointer missing libGL error: failed to load driver: i965 --- i965_dri.so (graphics driver library) does exist in that location and so does libz.so.1. I am unsure if libz.so.1 is version `ZLIB_1.2.3.3' or if that message is just an exception thrown caused by the previous error. For the scope of this forum this can probably be considered solved. Google appears to have several results for this in very different contexts. P.S. If I find a fix besides deleting the "libz.so.1", I might post it for posterity. Thanks |

Thanks, I was having the same problem here - although I'd just bought the game through Steam and had never installed it previously via 'other means'. Regardless deleting libz.so.1 fixed the problem. |
