It's because you have 50 savegames and the game doesn't seem to allow more since the latest patch. Delete some savegames and you should be good to go.

it never did but I thought the crash was gone though hmm

This was just before 0.88 was released I think, haven't been able to recreate it in 0.88 yet (since I don't have many savegames atm).
