All right, give this one a shot: http://modulaatio.com/runningwithrifles/scripts1.zip

* Access Steam RWR folder\media\packages\vanilla\scripts, in my case it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\RunningWithRifles\media\packages\vanilla\scripts
* Take a backup of that folder
* Download and move scripts1.zip in that location and unzip it right there so that it overwrites a bunch of files
* Relaunch RWR and try to start campaign
* If it doesn't start, find the metagame.log at %appdata%\Running with rifles\ and attach it on the forum; if it does start, yay, kinda - will be good for me to know in any case given how scripts1.zip isn't really the fix I want to apply

Well, good job!

I tested starting the campaign after updating and before adding the patch, and it worked the same, no campaign.
Then I added the patch, and the campaign worked. So did the quick matches and saving/loading.

So was the issue that the startup script for the campaign wasn't correctly filling in the variables needed? Because I looked at the logs and it seemed that was the case. BTW, good job on using PHP for games. I'm a programmer myself and I haven't seen a game on steam using php before, at least I don't think I have. :D

Ok cool! I still don't know why things would behave differently for you and some versus e.g. me and many others, given the PHP interpreter is the exact same for everyone as it is shipped with the game. Hard to make an instant connection with Win 8 either here, I don't have one myself.

And yeah, PHP is certainly a somewhat weird decision to be used for a game like this :D I just decided to go ahead and try it given how I had at least some previous experience with it doing some web stuff and given how PHP comes with a perfectly viable non-web related CLI interpreter.

Can you try one more thing?

* Return back to the state before scripts1.zip i.e. return the scripts folder backup
* Download http://modulaatio.com/runningwithrifles/scripts2.zip and do the same thing as before
* Try to start a campaign

Still worky / no worky?

In this context - since I cannot continue with my previous save in the campaign, because the extraction points are inactive, should I delete that save or I may wait for some future fix?

Btw yesterday I started a new "Gray campaign", but when the Keepsake Bay map was finished and I went to the extraction point on the next map I started as a private again with no RP and XP.... WTF I thought........ I opened the Save Folder and I saw that the game is automatically created a new save called "Campaign1".

EDIT
Today I went to the next map and same happened - all my XP and RP were gone, so I opened the my "Campaing_Gray" folder copied and replaced the files with those in that new auto-created folder.
Anyway, isn't very comfy doing that of each map, but since this trick do the work, it can be a temporary solution.:?

I work quickly, cheaply and qualitatively. You can choose only two of the three options.

I'm going to need your save data to check that, both of those. Currently (0.99.3) there are no known issues with the saves or the campaign script, so getting those saves should be useful.

EDIT: ok, now I know one issue. The savegame delete operation doesn't do anything although it removes the item in the menu.. the item comes back when you go away and come back again.

Done - all my save games are attached here:

savegames.rar [899.55 KiB]
Downloaded 728 times
(NOTE: I can't continue my green campaign)

Exactly! Even more - I realized that if I delete or rename that automatically created save game on the next map the game create a new campaign and loading to me that new save.
I just saw that when I wanted to start a new campaign I have no access to the presets when I tried to adjust the settings I wanted. I mean I can't touch the slide bars at "less hard" and "hard". If I click any of them the game immediately transferred me to "custom" preset. Short video here:

I'm not sure I'm following you entirely with this, but, does any of this what you are doing involve changing the folder names of the save games once they've been created? If so, then the problem is related to that; the savedata itself also stores the folder name (in metagame_invasion.xml: <settings savegame="campaign1" ..), so only renaming the folder name won't work.

EDIT:
At least, that is what seems to be going indeed: your campaign_gray has metagame_invasion.xml which has savegame="campaign1", so from some point on the game would start storing data at campaign1 instead of campaign_gray. Did you copy/rename campaign1 into campaign_gray at some point?

That is to be expected. Changing sliders applied by "less hard" or "hard" makes your set of settings "custom", as your newly made set is no longer matching with the presets :)

The green campaign has certainly gone through something unexpected, the settings data has vanished from the save. I've heard this happen on Mac, which I was hoping would be related to one other serious issue only happening on Mac, but this could be something else entirely. How to trigger this, that would certainly be the question..

You can fix the campaign manually by editing metagame_invasion.xml and add a line such as
<settings savegame="campaign_green" username="dio" faction_choice="0" fellow_capacity="1.200000" fellow_ai_accuracy="0.940000" enemy_capacity="1.000000" enemy_ai_accuracy="0.940000" xp_factor="0.300000" rp_factor="1.000000" />
after <saved_metagame> line.

Pay attention to those accuracies and capacities, those are from Hard difficulty, it might not be what you had initially.

Still not working. Only script1 fixed that. D:
