Change log for beta 0.61:
- online: several traffic optimizations
- online: fixed sync issue when a soldier is climbing a ladder
- online: throwing a grenade at a dead player no longer shows a kill notification
- graphics: explosion prints optimized
- gameplay, hud: base capture logic changed; faction force division indicator for closest base, and a countdown timer for base ownership declaration; when the timer expires the faction with 60% force occupies the area
- weapons: m24-a2 sniper rifle added
- ai: slight performance improvement
- gameplay: larger world blocks -> slightly worse performance, allowing sniper sight range extension, improves battle state correctness near player
- barebones for map3

I'm once again trying to record a new online gameplay video soon, so people interested in participating in such a video (or a bigger online game for that matter) should hang out on the irc-channel on the next few days and/or next weekend or keep polling on the public server list -- hope that was vague enough for you :) A rough estimation when these games might start would be around 19:00 UTC. The games will be hosted most likely in Finland, so people from Europe and US East Coast should be able to play with good to bearable latencies.

Also, like we've discussed in the chat, it's starting to be the perfect time to choose new names for the maps, just having a number at the end isn't very nice. So, throw me some suggestions! At least Monsteri had some already in mind, care to remind me what those were? :)

Hello Pasik,

Much appreciation for the new release! Tried it out. Sniper is a great addition. Below are my suggestions for map names:

Map 1 = Trenches. (very obvious reason)

Map 2 = Suburbia.... Or Seaside

Hi Comjak,

"Trenches" is a good map name, short and obvious to describe the map. I like it.
For map2 it's not bad either, but not too sure about it.

i pressed F6-7-8 dont remember which one, and it appeared and ruined my game :D

Actually, it appears that there's something wrong in the release which ruins online gaming pretty much completely. Expect a patch release very soon!

Seaside and Resort seem pretty suitable for map2; how about a combination, Seaside Resort?

Map2 is in fact vaguely based on Parga, Greece, which is indeed a small resort town http://maps.google.fi/maps?q=parga,+greece&hl=fi&ll=39.283543,20.400603&spn=0.005763,0.013078&sll=62.593341,27.575684&sspn=14.132568,53.569336&hnear=Parga,+Preveza,+Kreikka&t=h&z=17.

Map1 is an odd combination of all sorts of stuff, a certain feel of prototyping with ideas is clearly present. The trenches clearly make the distinguishing element compared to map2, so maybe it is appropriate to name the map after that. While the simplicity of "Trenches" definitely works, I'd still somehow like to see something more to it. "Trench Foot" might be on the right path I think.

Map3 is going in the direction of having those separating rivers, some bridges to connect the areas, there's some division between an industrial area, town center, and suburbs for now, the other locations are pretty much undefined stlil. The bases will form a diamond shape in the end.. hmm, any ideas?
